Dear Speedskating Enthusiasts, Friends, and Guests, As co-directors of the U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships and Junior Elite Trials, we would like to welcome athletes, officials, and spectators to the Ted Iorio Arena. Many of you have probably seen speedskating only on television, and you are in for a treat. Short track is the fastest moving racing sport not involving gravity or mechanical advantage, with speeds approaching 30 miles per hour. Most of you are here because you know that this is the premier event in the U.S. short track speedskating calendar. This event not only determines who will be the U.S. Short Track Champions (men and ladies), but it also determines which athletes will represent the United States in the 2000 World Short Track Championship in Sheffield, England, in the 2000 World Short Track Team Championship in The Hague, The Netherlands, and in the Goodwill Games in Lake Placid, New York. Also to be decided are positions on the U.S. National Training Team and the U.S. Junior Elite Training Team. Pick a favorite competitor, or competitors, and cheer them on! While cheering is encouraged (this isn't golf!), we ask only that you remain quiet when the starter's gun is in the air, and that you refrain from flash photography during the racing, for safety's sake. Enjoy! Milt and Rhonda Weinstein Meet Co-Directors 2000 U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships |
