The Bay State Speedskating Club (BSSC) is a nonprofit member club of NSA, responsible for the training in the Boston and Providence area. We sponsor training sessions, learning clinics, and races. As a group, we support and encourage people of all ages and skill levels.

HOW DO I START?
Come to one of our ice sessions!

If you know how to skate or want to learn, come to a session! We have coaches on the ice leading our skaters through a fun workout whenever we have ice. Because we have skaters of all levels on the ice, we are able to ensure that everyone skates with a small group of skaters with similar abilities.
Bring a pair of skates (you can use hockey or figure skates), a bicycle helmet, soft knee pads, gloves and long sleeve clothing.

Walk on-sessions cost $15 for first time skaters. Reduced rates are available for regular skaters and walk-on rates increase after the first session. See the appropriate Schedule (Fall/Winter or Summer) for more information on membership and ice rates.

Although we do not have a rental program, we might be able to help find a pair of skates for a trial basis with enough advance notice.

ICE TRAINING:
The Bay State Speedskating Club conducts regular short-track ice speedskating sessions throughout the year, primarily at the Ted Iorio Arena, a very modern Olympic-sized rink in Walpole, MA. Our summer program runs from May 1 - Sept 30. See our Summer schedule for more information.

COACHING:
Our BSSC coaching staff includes former Olympians, National Champions and World Team members. BSSC accommodates skaters at all levels from kids to grandparents, from first-timers to old-timers, from novices and non-competitors to world team members. We have competitors as young or younger than 7 years old up to 87 years young!!

COMPETITION:
Our skaters regularly compete throughout the season at different club level meets. Check out our upcoming meets for an updated Schedule of events.
